My Background

Interesting someone really want to know my background!!

Hi, I am Mcken a person that enjoy to spend time on thinking of new technology ideas and enjoy being with my family.  My technology interest include data security, cryptography, biometrics, CNC machines, robotics, computer AI, embedded system, astronomy, cooking and gardening.  Yes, I have a wide range of interest, that's why I found I had so little time to spend on each of them.

What am I doing to make a living?  I am a Senior Consultant with Thales e-Security in their Advance Solution Group, where helping customer to create their secure solutions.

Previous I had been held varies of CTO, manager and consultant positions for the last two decades. created numerous of cutting edge technologies, some were successful some failed.   What I find was, great technology without a good business plan is meant for failure.

Technically I was trained in application development  in 19XX (you guess), but then I was working in field of cryptography R&D to develop security products.  I had been working with RSA algorithm directly at the time there were no standard to follow (PKCS (1-3) standard were only in its early draft), the name PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) was not even exist (did I just hinted my age??).  I was naturally moved into the world of  identity management (IdM) because of my PKI and directory services knowledge, this had leaded me into security policy and mange IT operations.    After that I was then started to work in the world of biometrics , this knowledge  had enriched my data security knowledge portfolio!!

My biometrics knowledge were started with IBG (International Biometic Group). I did have few biometic experience in the past, but hard to compare to the knowledge I gain form them.   I had joined IBG only a few months before the 9/11 event,  after the 9/11 the biometric technology got into the spotlight.  IBG were called for all kind of projects from government to private sectors, and I was the only person that had development and R&D background at the time, so I was called for most of their projects.  I was then helping them to build their development and R&D teams as usual.  It was a boot camp to me, it accelerated my biometrics knowledge through different projects and experienced with technology vendors and clients environments.  Thanks to my R&D background and board interest, I can understand most of the technology detail of biometric technologies.  I had also involved in a lot of standards NIST, ANSI, and ISO JCT1/SC37. I enjoyed what I learnt from fingerprint, facial, iris, vein, voice, signature, to keyboard dynamics and some rare ones!  They all have different limitation and challenges that need to overcome!  This biometric world seems fit my style - its full of challenges!
